Visit Sky’s in Pine, the Best Rustic Furniture Store in Pine

When you visit Pine, Arizona, you’ll find a beautiful small town nestled in the stunning landscape of the Mogollon Rim complete with pine trees and breathtaking mountains. Many of the local buildings suit the mountainous landscape with a rustic cabin style.

To truly complete the appeal of a cabin, rustic furniture is an essential. Sky’s in Pine, one of whose two retail locations is on the Beeline Guest House property, is the best destination in town for hand-carved rustic live edge furniture and decorative wood carvings.

When you visit the Beeline Guest House, a boutique hotel in Pine, your trip is an excellent opportunity to take home some of Sky’s in Pine’s finely crafted work. Sky’s in Pine is run by Ron “Sky” Davidson, a master at making furniture with more than 50 years of experience in the field.

Sky first got started in woodworking at about five years old.

“My great-grandfather put a sanding block in my hand, and I went to town sanding,” he says. “Boy, did I sand. I sanded until that wood was as thin as paper.”

Working with his hands came naturally to Sky. He went on to take wood shop classes in high school, and after his service in the U.S. Coast Guard, continued woodworking. While studying for his master’s degree in education in Northern California, Sky supplemented his GI Bill funding by building tables from the redwood burl ubiquitous in the area.

Sky went on to run stores specializing in rustic furniture and a salvage logging company in Northern California and Southern Oregon while teaching at Humboldt State University. His expertise became known around the country, as he gained roles as a consultant to help set up rustic furniture stores in markets across the U.S.

Over the course of his career spanning multiple decades, Sky moved near Tucson in the early 1990s after acquiring a ranch that had been in his family since the 1950s. He set up a manufacturing facility where he and his employees, most of whom are fellow U.S. military veterans and their families, build their specialty furniture and art carvings sold to stores across the western U.S. and in his own stores in Pine.

About 10 years ago, he opened a retail outlet in Pine and began spending summers in the area due to his large customer base there, with whom he’d built a following over the last 40 years.

“I don’t do really well in places where there are a lot of Santa Fe or pueblo-style homes,” Sky says. “Wherever there are trees, surface water and log homes, those locations work really well for sales.”

He maintained his first retail location in a historic cabin for about eight and a half years, after which came a move to a spot that could accommodate the increasing demand for Sky’s in

Pine’s products. Because of the uniqueness of his products and that no two pieces are alike, Sky tends to lead the market rather than follow it.

That eventually grew into two locations: a gallery location selling both traditional and live edge furniture as well as wood carvings and the woodyard located at the Beeline Guest House. In addition to the live edge furniture and wood carving art for sale, the woodyard sells wood slabs with instructional guides for those who would like to create their own furniture or art.

Sky’s in Pine also takes custom orders for all kinds of furniture, including bedroom and living room sets, and countertops. During summer, the retail locations are open seven days a week to accommodate Pine’s many summer visitors looking to escape Arizona’s summer heat.

Sky takes great pride in the furniture he offers to the public and still enjoys working with wood decades after he began.

“This has been a lifelong fun deal for me,” he says. “It started as a hobby 57 years ago, then became what I do full-time. It’s been a good thing to supplement my income, and now it’s all that I do.”

Those looking to see the incredible products on offer at Sky’s in Pine while staying at the Beeline Guest House won’t have to go far on the property, as the woodyard is located in the front of the Beeline Guest House building.
